This series will explore one of most enduring, misunderstood and misrepresented musical developments of the last 40 years, as I lead us on a winding, diversionary, many forking pathway through the post-hardcore underground.
From Dischord ’85 and the Revolution Summer throwing the thematic and behavioural shackles off from the dead end confines of hardcore formalism, through to those that kept the flame burning for a ceaselessly creative, emotionally bare and stylistically uncompromising avenues of D. I. Y self expression outside the view of the mainstream, this is the story of the post-hardcore underground told from the perspective of someone whose encounters with this music and this self sustaining culture would prove life changing.
It is also an audio cribsheet that will tutor the uninitiated as to why the Hot Topic paedo-paradise-pop-punk mall-slurry that emerged in the early 2000’s was to these scenes what Skrillex was to early Dubstep and why you should care about that.
